Best Instagram Comment-to-DM Tools (2026): 8 tools Compared on What You'll Actually Pay

Jenna Kutcher had a million Instagram followers who loved her posts and then didn't buy. So her team replaced the link in bio with a keyword: comment BOOK, get the offer by DM. That one funnel brought in 1,164 purchases, a 37% comment-to-purchase rate, according to ManyChat's case study.

That's what a comment-to-DM tool does. It sends a DM to everyone who comments your keyword, so the link reaches people while they still want it. FavStash, ManyChat and six other tools all do this. Where they differ is what you pay in the month a Reel goes viral, so we priced all eight on the same three months.

The short answer: FavStash if comment-to-DM is the last step of your content workflow (save the idea, post it, DM the commenters, see what worked). ManyChat if the DM starts a multi-step sales funnel. LinkDM for the most free DMs, InstantDM for cheap unlimited sends, CreatorFlow for the simplest setup, Inrō for AI-qualified sales chats, Spur for Shopify stores on WhatsApp too, and Metricool Flows if you already pay for Metricool.

FavStash is our product, so it's listed first, and we say where it loses. All prices come from vendor pricing pages, checked 27 October 2026. The viral-month figures are list-price maths, not a live 10,000-DM test.

TL;DR#

  • Price the viral month. At ~10,000 commenters, ManyChat costs about $162 a month. LinkDM stays at $19.
  • Check what's counted. ManyChat counts contacts, LinkDM and CreatorFlow count DMs, Inrō meters activations, and Spur and Metricool are flat.
  • Check the cap. CreatorFlow pauses, ManyChat bills overage, InstantDM throttles, and FavStash queues.
  • Skip flow builders unless you'll build flows. Most creators only need a keyword, a reply and a DM with a link.
  • Test one Reel first: set up a comment-to-DM automation in FavStash.

What a comment-to-DM tool does#

A comment-to-DM tool sends a private Instagram message to anyone who comments a chosen keyword on your post or Reel. It usually posts a public reply too ("Sent you a DM 📩"), then delivers a link, a guide or a discount code in the DM. It replaces "link in bio" with a link that arrives where the person is already looking.

Four Steps every comment-to-dm automation tool follows

Every tool on this list does the same four steps:

  1. Trigger. Someone comments your keyword, for example GUIDE.
  2. Public reply. The tool answers under the comment, so others know to comment too.
  3. DM. A message with a button arrives in their inbox.
  4. Link. They tap a button or reply, and the link follows. Meta limits what the first message can carry, so most tools hold the link back until the person responds.

All eight run on Meta's official Instagram messaging API and need an Instagram Professional account (Creator or Business). The tools differ in what they count, what extra triggers they support and what they do when a post blows up.

What Instagram DM automation tools actually cost#

Two things set your bill: the unit each tool counts, and what it does when you hit the limit. The headline price barely moves it.

What each tool counts, and what happens at the cap

Cap on comment-to-dm automation

ToolWhat it countsAt the cap
FavStashDMs per month, by plan [CONFIRM]Extra DMs wait in an overflow queue and send as soon as there's room
ManyChatActive contacts: each person you message in a month, counted onceAutomations keep running and overage is billed, unless you set an overage limit
LinkDMDMs per monthOverflow queue and slow-down mode only on Platinum+ ($99)
InstantDMNothing on paid plans, but sends are capped per hour (800/hr on Legend Pro)Throttled; DM queues start on Trendsetter ($24.99)
CreatorFlowDMs per workspaceAutomations pause until the next billing cycle, or you buy a top-up
InrōActivated contactsFree and annual plans stop reaching new contacts; monthly Pro keeps metering
SpurAutomation flows (3 on the entry plan) and AI credits, not messagesNo message cap, but a default 1,000 automated replies per post, and a 24-hour pause if spam is flagged
Metricool FlowsNo DM cap statedFree "for a limited time", then a paid add-on

What a normal month and a viral month cost

One Instagram account, monthly billing, people who comment your keyword in a month:

Tool~200 people~2,000 peopleViral month: ~10,000 people
FavStash[CONFIRM plan][CONFIRM plan][CONFIRM plan], overflow queue included
ManyChat$17 (Essential, 250 contacts)$39 (Pro, 2,500 contacts)≈ $162 (Business $99 + 2,500 × $0.025 overage)
LinkDM$0 (Free, 1,000 DMs)$19 (Pro)$19 (Pro, 25,000 DMs)
InstantDM$0 (Free, 500 DMs)$9.99 (Legend Pro, billed yearly)$9.99, sending at up to 800 an hour
CreatorFlow$0 (Free, 500 DMs)$15 (Pro, 5,000 DMs)$30 (Growth, 10,000 DMs, then paused)
InrōFrom €12.99 (Free stops at 100)Metered, price not publishedMetered, or €1,249/yr annual capped at 10,000 a month
Spur$15 (AI Acquire)$15$15
Metricool Flows$25 (Starter)$25$25

Two caveats. ManyChat counts everyone you message in a month, not only commenters, so a busy inbox adds to the total. InstantDM's monthly-billing price isn't shown on its page, so its figures are the yearly rate.

Pro tip: count unique commenters, not comments. A tool that counts people charges once for someone who comments five times. Spur, by default, DMs them five times unless you add a tag to stop it.

The 8 best Instagram comment-to-DM tools#

1. FavStash: best for creators who want the post, the DM and the numbers in one place

FavStash covers the whole loop. It saves the Reels and TikToks you find with their transcript and hook, so you can search them by meaning. It schedules your posts to Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn and X, and its cross-platform analytics show whether your comment-to-DM posts beat the rest. Comment-to-DM answers the people those posts bring in. No other tool here starts before the post exists.

How it does comment-to-DM. One screen, five steps: pick the post, add up to 10 keywords, write the public reply, write the DM with a button like "Send me the link", then add the link. Keywords match on "Contains" or "Is exactly" and ignore case, accents and emoji, so "guide", "GUIDE 🙏" and "guíde" all count. A phone preview shows the post, comments and DM the way a follower will see them.

dm-screenshot.png

What's good about it.

  • Overflow queue. When comments come in faster than Instagram lets DMs go out, the extra DMs wait in a queue instead of being dropped.

  • A/B versions. Add as many reply and DM versions as you like. FavStash rotates them, so a viral post doesn't send thousands of identical messages.

  • Map and Insights. Each account is a hub with its keywords branching off it, and Insights shows what each automation and version sent. map of comments made on reels and analytics of it all

  • Works on any post, including Reels you published outside FavStash, and you can edit or pause it while it's live.

  • Set it up from Claude or ChatGPT. With FavStash connected to Claude, ask "put a GUIDE keyword on my latest Reel and DM the checklist link". Your AI builds it and asks before it goes live. Full walkthrough: how FavStash comment-to-DM works.

Price. Free: 1 channel and 4 posts a month. Doom Scroller: $12.99 a month ($10.33 yearly) for 3 channels. Creator Pro: $23.17 a month billed yearly for 10 channels. Comment-to-DM is on every plan, with a monthly DM allowance by plan [CONFIRM numbers]. See FavStash pricing.

Where it falls short. Instagram post and Reel comments only. That means no story, Live, ad or DM-keyword triggers, no email capture, follow gate, flows or AI inbox agent, and no Facebook, WhatsApp or TikTok DMs. It's also the newest tool here, so it has the shortest track record.

Pick it if one keyword, one reply and one link is the whole job, and you'd rather plan, post, DM and measure in one app than pay for three.

2. ManyChat: best for multi-step funnels across several channels

ManyChat is the best-known Instagram automation platform and a Meta Business Partner. Comment-to-DM is one trigger inside its visual flow builder.

How it does comment-to-DM. A comment starts a flow that can reply publicly with rotating variations, send DMs with buttons, check whether the person follows you, ask for an email and branch on the answers. It also triggers on story replies and mentions, Live comments, ads and shares to DM, and runs on WhatsApp, Messenger, TikTok and more. One documented limit: it fires only on a person's first comment on a post.

Price. ManyChat pricing is per active contact, meaning each person you message in a month: Free 25, Essential $17 for 250, Pro $39 for 2,500, Business $99 for 7,500 and Advanced $199 for 25,000 ($14, $29, $69 and $139 yearly). Overage per extra contact runs from $0.10 on Essential down to $0.025 on Business. You can cap overage, and upgrading in the same billing cycle waives what you've already run up. Each extra Instagram account is a separate subscription.

Where it falls short. The bill follows your best Reel. One Reddit user wrote: "Been using manychat for the last 3 months and built up 8000 contacts through CTAs. Was suprised at the bill being almost $100." On 27 October 2026 it held 2.1 out of 5 from 308 reviews on Trustpilot, mostly about billing and support.

Pick it if your comment-to-DM starts a sales funnel with conditions, lead capture and several channels. If you only need the link sent, our ManyChat alternative for comment-to-DM breaks down the cost difference.

3. LinkDM: best for the most free DMs

LinkDM is a comment-to-DM tool for Instagram and Facebook, used by over 60,000 creators by its own count, and a Meta Business Partner since 2021.

How it does comment-to-DM. The free plan covers post and Reel comments, story replies and mentions, "next post" and share-to-inbox triggers. Pro adds public comment replies, a follower check, email capture, reminder DMs, Rewind (DM people who commented before you set it up), and Live and ad triggers.

Price. LinkDM pricing: Free for 1,000 DMs a month on 1 account. Pro $19 a month ($182 a year) for 25,000 DMs on 3 accounts. Platinum+ $99 a month for 300,000 DMs on 10 accounts.

Where it falls short. Public replies need Pro. The overflow queue and rate limiter are Platinum+ only, and the API is Enterprise only.

Pick it if you want the biggest free allowance, or cheap volume on one to three accounts.

4. InstantDM: best for cheap "unlimited" DMs and the widest trigger list

InstantDM automates Instagram DMs and also schedules posts with an auto-DM attached.

How it does comment-to-DM. It triggers on post and Reel comments, all comments, story replies, Live, "next post", Meta Ads, boosted Reels, collab posts and Facebook Page comments. It has a follow gate, email and phone capture, reply delays and resends failed automations for up to 30 days. Trendsetter adds a flow editor, an AI agent node that uses your own OpenAI or Claude key, an API and an MCP server.

Price. InstantDM pricing, per month billed yearly: Free (500 DMs a month on up to 5 posts), Legend Pro $9.99 (unlimited, up to 800 an hour), Trendsetter $24.99 (up to 2,000 an hour), Trendsetter Pro $49.99 (no hourly limit). 7-day trial on paid plans.

Where it falls short. "Unlimited" is throttled per hour on the cheaper tiers, the flow editor is desktop-only, and sending actions through its MCP cost credits.

Pick it if you want ManyChat-level triggers without per-contact billing, or an Instagram MCP on a budget.

5. CreatorFlow: best for the simplest setup

CreatorFlow is an Instagram-only comment-to-DM tool built around "three steps, no flowcharts".

How it does comment-to-DM. Post and Reel keyword comments, story replies, keyword DMs, Rewind for past commenters, A/B-tested message variations, follow and email gates, link-click analytics and a phone preview while you build.

Price. CreatorFlow pricing: Free for 500 DMs on 1 account. Pro $15 a month ($12 yearly) for 5,000 DMs on 2 accounts. Growth $30 ($24 yearly) for 10,000 DMs on 5 accounts. 14-day trial, card required.

Where it falls short. At the cap, "Automations pause until the next billing cycle", so a viral Reel can stop sending mid-spike unless you buy a top-up pack. No API and no AI replies.

Pick it if you're a solo creator who wants the shortest path to a gated link and an email list.

6. Inrō: best for AI-qualified sales conversations

Inrō is an Instagram-first DM platform with an AI agent, a CRM and DM campaigns. It lists Walmart, Kering and LVMH among its customers.

How it does comment-to-DM. Keyword, emoji or phrase triggers plus AI intent detection, on post and Reel comments, story replies, mentions, Live, ads and DMs. AI can rewrite public replies, the chat captures email, phone and custom fields, and you can build and switch on automations through its MCP server.

Price. Inrō pricing: Free for 100 activated contacts a month (hard cap). Pro from €12.99 a month, metered by contacts activated. Annual Pro €1,249 a year, capped at 10,000 contacts a month. Managed from €299 a month.

Where it falls short. The metered price above 500 contacts isn't published, so a busy month is hard to predict. It's priced in euros and has few public reviews so far.

Pick it if your DMs need to separate buyers from freebie-seekers before a human steps in.

7. Spur: best for Shopify stores selling on Instagram and WhatsApp

Spur is an automation and AI support platform for ecommerce brands, covering Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and live chat. Its Shopify app is rated 5.0 from 118 reviews.

How it does comment-to-DM. Comments on all posts or on a specific post, Reel or ad, plus Live comments, story mentions and keyword DMs. You get public replies, a visual flow builder with conditions and delays, AI that spots purchase intent in comments, and revenue tracking per post.

Price. Spur pricing, monthly: AI Acquire $15, AI Start $39, AI Accelerate $159, AI Max $499 ($12, $31, $127 and $399 yearly). No free plan, but a 14-day trial with no card. Executions are unlimited. The limits are flows (3 on AI Acquire) and AI credits. Shopify and WhatsApp automation start on AI Start.

Where it falls short. People who comment twice get the DM twice unless you set up a tag to prevent it. Automated replies are capped at 1,000 per post by default. Its MCP covers WhatsApp and contacts, not Instagram automations.

Pick it if you run a Shopify store and want Instagram comments, WhatsApp and support in one inbox.

8. Metricool Flows: best if you already pay for Metricool

Metricool is a social media scheduler and analytics suite. In September 2026 it launched Flows, a comment-to-DM module inside its planner.

How it does comment-to-DM. Instagram comment-to-DM, keyword DMs and story replies, plus TikTok comment replies and X comment-to-DM (X needs Metricool's $10 add-on). Public replies get up to 3 variations. The first DM must be text only, so it asks the person to reply ("Reply YES and I'll send the link") before the link goes out. Flows analytics show sends, interactions and click-through rate.

Price. Metricool pricing: Flows is "no extra cost for a limited time" on paid plans: Starter $25 a month ($20 yearly) for up to 5 brands, Advanced $67 ($53 yearly). It's not on the Free plan, and Metricool says it will later become a paid add-on.

Where it falls short. The reply-before-link step adds friction, and it's one automation per post, so you clone a flow for each Reel. No follow gate, email capture, ad or Live triggers, and no Facebook. Metricool's MCP works on every plan but doesn't reach Flows, the inbox or comments.

Pick it if you already use Metricool for scheduling and reports. Weighing schedulers? See our Metricool vs Buffer pricing breakdown or the FavStash vs Metricool comparison.

LinkDM or ManyChat? LinkDM is simpler and cheaper for comment-to-link: 25,000 DMs for $19. ManyChat is better when the DM starts a flow, captures leads or runs on other channels.

What practitioners are saying#

Pacing matters more than the sticker price. A solo creator who needed 20,000 to 40,000 DMs a month ruled out the cheapest plan they found because it had no throttle. The top reply said throttle controls, random delays and daily caps are worth more than saving $10 to $20 a month. Another marketer got action-blocked within about three days after sending one identical message, with the link in the first DM and no delays.

ManyChat users price on the wrong month. Beyond the $100 bill above, a Pro user with about 4,200 contacts pays roughly $90 a month and upgraded sooner than planned, but still calls it worth the hours saved. A third objects that people who DM you for unrelated reasons count too.

Viewers notice the gate. A post on r/SouthIndianInfluencer complaining about "comment and follow for link" got 139 upvotes. Its author scrolls past captions that hide the product name, and adds: "And if someone makes me follow them for it, I unfollow immediately after I get the link."

One note on sourcing: most Reddit threads asking for a "ManyChat alternative" are answered by tool founders. We left those replies out of the claims above.

What each tool provides

Common mistakes with comment-to-DM#

  • Hiding the product name to force comments. It's the main source of viewer backlash. Name the thing, and offer the link as a shortcut.
  • Using the same keyword and reply on every post. Rotate keywords per post and keep several reply versions, so Meta's spam systems don't see one pattern repeated thousands of times.
  • Testing from your own account. Commenting on your own Reel won't fire most triggers. Use a second account.
  • Forgetting "Allow access to messages". It lives in Instagram's message settings, under connected tools. It's often switched off, and without it nothing sends.
  • Using a sensitive keyword. Some people won't comment "BUDGET" or "WEIGHTLOSS" in public. Add "or DM me the word" to the caption.
  • Pricing the entry tier. Price the month your best Reel takes off.

One small thing that helps: say the keyword out loud in the Reel and put it in the caption too. People comment what they hear.

What FavStash comment-to-DM won't do#

FavStash is not a full DM marketing platform. Pick one of the tools above if you need any of these:

  • Story reply, story mention, Live, ad or DM-keyword triggers. FavStash triggers on post and Reel comments.
  • Email or phone capture, or a follow gate. The link goes straight to anyone who taps.
  • Multi-step flows or an AI inbox agent. One reply, one DM, one link.
  • Other DM channels. No Facebook, WhatsApp or TikTok DMs.

Many creators will run two tools, and that's fine. If ManyChat runs your sales funnel, FavStash can still save your ideas, schedule the posts and show what performed.

Author's take#

Pricing all eight tools on the same viral month changed my ranking more than any feature table did. The trigger is the same everywhere. What differs is what happens on your best day: a per-contact plan raises your bill, a capped plan pauses, and a cheap plan without throttling can get you flagged.

My rule: if you run one keyword on one account, pick a flat-priced tool that rotates replies and handles a spike, and test it on a small post first. Move to ManyChat or Inrō when you'll actually build flows. Either way, name the product in the video. The keyword should save people a step, not hide the answer.

Jenna Kutcher's results came from a team building funnels for a million followers. Yours will be smaller, and that's fine. The point is the same at any size. When someone comments "I want this", they should get the link while they still want it.

Try it on your next Reel#

Pick your next Reel, choose a keyword, and set up the reply and DM in FavStash. Then save five Reels you liked and ask Claude or ChatGPT what they have in common. Start with FavStash on the free plan, no card needed.
